ClearCorrect for Underbites
Underbites are a common orthodontic condition. They occur when the bottom teeth protrude out beyond the upper teeth. Here, our experienced Surrey dentist Dr. Larry Lu shares information about using ClearCorrect clear aligner system for treating underbites and what you can expect.
ClearCorrect is a type of orthodontic treatment that uses a series of clear plastic trays to straighten teeth. But this system can do more than straighten teeth for aesthetic reasons. Some patients with underbites, overbites, or gaps in their teeth may also benefit from ClearCorrect clear aligners. While undergoing treatment using ClearCorrect, you will need to wear them for at least 22 hours each day, only taking them out for eating, brushing, and flossing. While they are similar to traditional braces in that they apply pressure to shift teeth gradually, ClearCorrect doesn’t have wires or brackets. They are created using smooth plastic and sit snuggly over your teeth, allowing for a discreet and comfortable straightening option.
Misalignment of the teeth or jaw can lead to a condition known as an underbite. When this happens, the
bottom teeth sit further forward in the mouth than the top teeth. Orthodontic issues such as severe
underbites can cause several problems, including the following:
If you have an underbite, your orthodontist may recommend orthodontic treatment to restore your smile, improve your eating ability, and prevent future wear on your teeth.
If your underbite is caused by the misalignment of teeth, then ClearCorrect system may be an ideal
treatment option. You will be able to discover your treatment options and whether ClearCorrect may be one of them during your consultation with the top dentist in Surrey, Dr. Larry Lu. During this consultation, your dentist who is well trained in this area and has over 25 years experience will perform a complete examination and take digital impressions of your teeth, showing you the bite and any issues that you may be experiencing. If it is decided that you will begin ClearCorrect treatment, your orthodontist will have your new aligners created using these digital impressions.
To successfully treat your underbite, your teeth will need to be adjusted to sit in a better position. Achieving this requires you to wear the ClearCorrect trays to gently move your teeth over several weeks.
You will wear each set of trays for approximately two weeks, allowing your teeth to move gently into their
new prescribed positions.
Once an effective treatment plan is complete, you will need to wear a retainer to help keep your teeth in their new position while the jaw bone builds up around them
While Invisalign may be a good option for some patients, it is not meant for everyone. Each patient is unique, just like each dental problem. Some underbites may be so complex or severe that they require surgical solutions.
Scheduling a consultation with Dr. Larry Lu to discuss your needs and options is the only way to know which treatment is best suited for you
ClearCorrect can be used for patients of all ages. Many patients choose ClearCorrect due to the discreet
appearance of the clear aligners. They also fit easily into all types of lifestyles as they can be removed for
eating, playing instruments, and sports.
They can also simplify oral hygiene, as you remove them to brush and floss your teeth, allowing you to easily reach the crevices.
As mentioned above, the first step in the ClearCorrect treatment journey is to request a consultation with Surrey dentist Dr. Larry Lu. He will use imaging equipment to create digital impressions to create your aligners and also to show you your potential results.
During treatment, you must wear your aligners for at least 22 hours each day. Yes, this means every
moment when you aren’t eating or when you are drinking anything other than water. Failure to do so may
result in longer treatment times.
The good news is that no dietary changes are really needed with ClearCorrect. You will be free to eat all of
your favourite foods. However, you may want to stick to soft foods in the beginning to reduce any discomfort. Any pain that you do feel during this time should pass relatively quickly.
You will continue to see our Surrey dentist Dr. Larry Lu for regular checkups throughout treatment. Once you are finished, you will be provided with a retainer to maintain your results. After that, you are free to show your confident smile to the world.
